(This story is passed on from
Mike Dawson in Coshilowäteli. It is his recent personal experience.) I was speaking with Carlos from the village of Seducudawä. He paddled down to bring his wife to the medical dispensary as she had been stung on the foot by a large stingray and was in a lot…

We have been working for a while on a new web site for the film. The goal is to have a site that is more dynamic, has better news feeds and access to everything. Because we have a lot of activity coming up this fall, we made the site live tonight.
It has much of the same information, but it's in a neater package and is easier for us to keep current. You can get RSS feeds and follow us on Twitter from the home page if you aren't already keeping up with those more frequent updates about the film.…

“Thanks for keeping your promise and bringing us a copy of the film.” Several times during my trip to Belize I heard words to this effect coming from our Kekchi actors. Over the past couple of centuries the Maya/Kekchi people have been lied to, deceived and coerced by outsiders. Many expressed deep gratitude for receiving a copy of the film, knowing they could show off their hard work to their family and grandchildren for years to come.…

Just a quick blog to let you know that Matt Castagna, one of the Producers of the film, is in Belize this week and weekend to screen the film at the Belize International Film Festival.
The Enemy God makes use of the talents of hundreds of Belizeans and the beautiful Belizean rainforest. The festival organizers have been eager to host a special screening on Saturday, July 25th as part of the festival. Matt will also make some television and radio appearances to talk about the film.
We ar…

George Lucas supposedly once said that sound is 51% of a film. Good sound is often the thing that is left out of low-budget films — and you can tell!

I’m sitting in a surround-sound mixing room in California today, working with our sound designer on final tweaks for the 5.1 sur…

Check out the
new video clip we just put together. It is a brief interview with Dr. Jim Yost, a well-known anthropologist with years of experience among indigenous groups in the Amazon region.
We recently caught up with Dr. Yost at a conference where he saw
The Enemy God for the first time. He was gracious to give us a few of his thoughts after viewing the film. He has a lot of insight into indigenous cultu…

It was previewed in our church, Faith Tabernacle in Welland, due to the fact that the director, Christopher Bessette attends there [here?].
I can not remember if the film was 1.5 or 2 hours but I could hardly believe that it was over I was so captivated by the story!
Everyone should see this. Christopher is so talented and helpful in putting drama together whether on film or in real life. He has directed a couple of Christmas programs in which I played small parts. He led us along one step at…

- Entertainment 7, our sales agent, is in Cannes, France right now at the large film market that runs beside the famous Cannes Film Festival. They are there to find buyers for our film in Europe and other regions. These deals can take time so we may not know results for a while.…

In the last entry, we ended with our painful decision to move the shooting location from Venezuela to some other, more stable country. We checked out possible sites in Ecuador, Peru, and Panama before settling on Belize, a small Central American country just north of Guatemala on the Caribbean Sea. Belize is quiet, accessible, friendly, and with the added benefit that English is spoken by most of the population, including the indigenous groups. Also, Matt had lived and worked in Belize so he had…

A question that always comes up at festivals and other screenings is how we addressed the challenges of filming overseas for
The Enemy God. In a series of blog posts, I’ll try to encapsulate three major hurdles and how we saw them overcome on our project. The three major hurdles are: Logistics, Culture, and Governments.
In this first installment I’ll talk about logistics. Here I am talking about things like figuring out how to ship equipment, what can be found on location, building sets,…

This is a great way for the filmmakers, actors and crew to be in touch with the audience. I appreciate to opportunity to connect with the audience and I am equally as excited for the actors and crew members that signed up and made themselves available. I think this is a great opportunity for young filmmakers interested in the art - what an opportunity to connect with an experienced cameraman like Paul Cuthbert or visual effects artist like Darren Cranford. Thanks to Tom Khazoyan for developing t…
